The Mangalore Obstetrics & Gynaecological Society was established in 1974 due to the pioneering efforts of Dr. Lydia Colaco who was the faculty at Lady Goschen Hospital. She was the first President, Dr. T. K. Bhat was the Secretary, while Dr. Gayathri Ramani and Dr. Upendra Kamath were Joint Secretaries. Dr. Manorama Rao, the doyen of Obstetrics in Mangalore, then took over the mantle of President with Dr. R.S. Mahale as Secretary.
As recounted by Dr. Manorama Rao,the academic sessions involved vibrant case discussions & invited lectures. Interestingly, there were lively interactive joint sessions between MOGS & Manipal OBG Society headed by the great teacher, Dr. Padma Rao.
Subsequently luminaries like Dr. Ashadevi Rai, Dr. Bharathi Kamath, Dr.Patrick Pinto, Dr. Nalini Pai, Dr.D.K.Shetty, Dr.Arun Rao, Dr. S.R.Nayak and other notable personages were office bearers.
