HISTORY OF MOGS

The Mangalore Obstetrics & Gynaecological Society was established in 1974 due to the pioneering efforts of Dr. Lydia Colaco who was the faculty at Lady Goschen Hospital. She was the first President, Dr. T. K. Bhat was the Secretary, while Dr. Gayathri Ramani and Dr. Upendra Kamath were Joint Secretaries. Dr. Manorama Rao, the doyen of Obstetrics in Mangalore, then took over the mantle of President with Dr. R.S. Mahale as Secretary.

As recounted by Dr. Manorama Rao,the academic sessions involved vibrant case discussions & invited lectures. Interestingly, there were lively interactive joint sessions between MOGS & Manipal OBG Society headed by the great teacher, Dr. Padma Rao.

Subsequently luminaries like Dr. Ashadevi Rai, Dr. Bharathi Kamath, Dr.Patrick Pinto, Dr. Nalini Pai, Dr.D.K.Shetty, Dr.Arun Rao, Dr. S.R.Nayak and other notable personages were office bearers.

MILESTONES IN HISTORY OF MOGS

1974	Birth of MOGS under the leadership of Dr. Lydia Colaco
1991	Our Society hosted Karnataka State Obstetric & Gynecology Association (KSOGA) State Conference with Dr. Manorama Rao as Organising Chairperson, Dr. R.S.Mahale as Organising Secretary , & Dr. Ananthalakshmi Bhat as Treasurer.
2015	MOGS was registered under the Societies’ Act & MOGS logo formulated during the tenure of Dr. Navinchandra Nayak as President & Dr.Veena Bhagavan as Secretary. A Constitution was adopted with Dr. Amritha Bhandary heading the Committee.
2017	The first YUVA-KSOGA was hosted by MOGS on Septemer 2nd & 3rd at Mangalore. The Organising Chairperson, Organising Secretary & Treasurer were Dr. Prema D’Cunha, Dr. Vatsala Kamath & Dr. Rajesh Bhat respectively.Every member of the Organising Committee & every member of MOGS ensured the success of the Conference
2018	MOGS website set up, PG Excellence Quest started & various Committees initiated during tenure of Dr. Vatsala Kamath as President & Dr. Prasanna Kumar Shetty as Secretary.
	There have been triumphs & achievements in the long saga of MOGS! The chronicle of the history of MOGS is a work in progress…… & there will be many visionaries leading MOGS into the future!!!
